Most people may have turned off the Olympic Opening Ceremony around letter “c” of the parade, but those that stuck with it, or caught up later online, will have seen the climax of Danny Boyle’s vision as the cauldron was lit. After a celebration of Britain’s industrial revolution led by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the director’s ambitious show found a surreally fragile and beautiful moment in this finale track by Underworld, performed by Two Door Cinema Club’s Alex Trimble, with help from the Dockhead Choir, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Only Men Aloud choir, and Elizabeth Roberts. Of any music performed at the ceremony, this is surely going to be the most Googled and cherished by generations watching at home.
