WHERE: Scotland
If Arab Strap did happiness. “And I don’t want to work for some shitty company, and I don’t wanna get a job with my degree in the industry”. So far, so Camden Lock. Or so you’d think, but Over the Wall just want to “spend their time with you” (aww – it’s about love and stuff) and that can only be a good thing. Far from the unfair stereotype of emotionally neutered Scots, this lot have got soul. Go give your ears some pleasure.
Toby Welch (Skins Producer)
Skins this year has been great for music. I couldn’t think of any better time during an episode to use ‘Runaway’ by The National (who I consider to be one of my favorite bands) in Grace’s episode. The noise pop stuff from the likes of Best Coast is pretty special too and they’re a band I’ve recently got into in a big way. But the other great thing about the show this year is the diversity of the music used. Take Rich’s episode for example, Napalm Death and Slayer. Skins has had it pretty crazy this year. In a good way. Crazy and interesting. The music supervisor Kyle has managed to move and excite audiences by the use of non-diegetic sounnnnds.
Skins has and always will pride itself on its use of music within the show. Over the course of five years and three generations of cast we’ve introduced millions of music fans to previously unheard artists who have gone onto to do great things. We love the popular but will always favour the unheard. We believe in giving artists chances and a platform to showcase their work. Anything that inspires us, goes in the show and hopefully in turn inspires someone else.
