WHERE: Brisbane, Queensland Australia

WHY:

There is something rather disconcerting about Cattle and Cane; the off kilter beat, weird chord changes and beautifully introspective lyrics drenched in reverb make it sound unlike anything else.  I loved it when it first came out (I think I imagined I was the boy in the song), then I saw Robert Forster and the late Grant McLennan play a live acoustic version of this at Tower Records on Piccadilly sometime in the 90s, and it blew me away all over again.

CHOSEN BY:

Matthew Wilson is a well-respected garden designer, writer, radio and television broadcaster and lecturer and presents the Channel 4 series Landscape Man.

Before his career as “The Landscape Man”, Matthew was a music writer and often wrote for the NME amongst other music publications
